Prostate Guillotine

Project Summary

This project aims to create a device that will aid in the slicing of removed prostates for pathological study.

Project Details

The concept of the project is creating a bespoke device that will hold prostates captive inside a box with slits that will let you slice the organ with a long knife.  The box is standard geometry but the medical technologist doing the segmentation can align the prostate mesh with the device along the angles they would like to slice it.  The box can be imported then a simple boolean subtraction can be performed to create the custom box.

Once the device geometry is defined it can simply be printed.  FDM is the ideal printing method as no supports are required.

The current design features four eccentrically placed holes for 8mm rods.  This makes it impossible to incorrectly align the top and the bottom.  The top component is sized to accept linear bearings for ease of sliding and accommodation of a yet-to-be-designed knife system.
